Morocco Travel Diary: Day 3

On the last day of our time in Morocco we explored every inch of Essaouira thanks to our wonderful guide who spent 4 hours showing us around, even taking us to his house so we could appreciate the gorgeous view from his terrace. I wish this was the view from my living room!!

We visited an artisan workshop to see how the locals produce wood and turn them into masterpieces - just look at the ceiling of the shop! The items they produce here is mind blowing and everything is so intricate and delicate. I couldn't leave without a souvenir so I bought my mum a wooden star with an Arabic prayer written in the middle which keeps you safe when you're in the car - she is half Arabic :)

On the last leg of our exploration we headed to a local workshop where various artists from around Essaouira paint and sell their work (you will see these paintings in many apartments around Morocco), I even bought one for my bathroom in my new house. It really was fascinating watching them at work and the different tools they used as opposed to traditional artists.

After lunch and some down-time at the Riad we wanted to go nowhere but Taros for our last meal together and got to the roof terrace just in time for the sunset. Taros is a must if you visit Essaouira, they have an extensive cocktail menu and the best food in town - just be prepared to pay a little bit more! We recommend the chicken tagine and crème brulee for dessert.
